ESG reporting in Oman, from MSX metrics to ISSB

ESG disclosure has been mandatory for companies listed on the Muscat Stock Exchange since 2025, and Oman has now adopted the ISSB standards. We help Omani companies meet this year's requirements and build towards IFRS S1 and S2.

Common questions

Is ESG reporting mandatory in Oman?

Yes, for public joint-stock companies (SAOGs) listed on the Muscat Stock Exchange. Since 2025 they must disclose 30 ESG metrics each year, approved by the board. Banks must also start climate-related disclosures with their 2026 financial statements.

When do IFRS S1 and S2 apply in Oman?

The Financial Services Authority adopted IFRS S1 and S2 in 2026 for listed public companies and financial institutions. Full application is required for periods starting on or after 1 January 2029, with Scope 3 emissions from 1 January 2030. A phased start from the 2027 reporting cycle has been proposed.

Do Omani companies have to report greenhouse gas emissions?

Projects that emit greenhouse gases need a climate affairs permit and must report their emissions each year. Listed companies report emissions as part of the MSX metrics, and IFRS S2 will add Scope 1, 2 and 3 disclosure from 2029 and 2030.

Which framework should an Omani company use?

Start with the 30 MSX metrics if you are listed, report against the GRI Standards for a complete picture, and add an ISSB index now so the move to IFRS S1 and S2 is gradual.
